How did you get into the business brokerage industry?
When I was in the mortgage industry, a co-worker’s father stopped by our office for lunch. He carried himself differently than the everyday mortgage guy I was used to and spoke with more elegance than the locker room environment we created. He shared his background in Mergers & Acquisitions as an Advisor, and I knew at that moment that I was done with mortgages. From there, I interviewed with a few brokerages and started in the world of brokering in July 2011.
What is your favorite thing about the industry?
Every deal is different! Even if you work on two similar businesses, the dynamics in each deal are unique. I get bored easily, so overcoming new challenges daily keeps me engaged.
What is the best or most interesting deal you have worked on?
I’m currently working on it. Almost two years +/- in the making. Between Covid and a fascinating Seller, this deal easily makes the top of the list. Hopefully, it will close soon to pay for the needed therapy!
What is the key to being a successful broker?
Patience, persistence, having thick skin, and finding the “right” mentor.
What is the strangest experience you have had while showing a listing?
Short of the Seller not showing up and the Buyer and myself trying to act like it wasn’t awkward. Fortunately, I have not had too many strange experiences while showing listings.
What do you do on your day(s) off?
My wife, daughters, and I spend a lot of time up North or in Mexico. We like to get out of town once every 30-45 days. If we’re not traveling, we usually relax at home and spend time with friends and family.
